GIVING BACK

Coastal Virginia Plein Air is a grass-roots organization comprised of private citizens who live in Norfolk, Virginia. Its mission is to bring art to the community and to help build a sense of community through the funding of special projects. The organization obtained its 501 (c) (3) status in 2019 and donations are tax-deductible.

2022:

The 2022 Coastal VA Plein Air will be held Wednesday, April 20 - Sunday, April 24 in Norfolk, Virginia.  Coastal VA Plein Air’s goal is to raise $25,000 to trigger a matching contribution from NorfolkArts to purchase a second piece of public art for the Ocean View community.

2021:

Coastal VA Plein Air purchased watercolor paint sets for  every child enrolled in Ocean View Elementary School.  Teachers designed a children’s arts program for the students and reported that the kids had a wonderful experience learning to paint with watercolors.

Coastal VA Plein Air and Norfolk Art's first collaborative public sculpture is completed by sculptor Eileen Gay and will be installed in Ocean View Beach Park in late summer or early fall.

2020:

Following a nationwide search, Nevada-based mosaic sculptor Eileen Gay was selected to  create our first public sculpture in collaboration with Norfolk Arts..  The sculpture will be completed in 2021 and installed in Ocean View.

2019:

$50,000 was raised to commission a public sculpture in Ocean View, a neighborhood in Norfolk, Virginia. Coastal VA Plein Air contributed $24,000 and Norfolk ARTS contributed $26,000.

July 2021 - We are excited! Our first public sculpture with NorfolkArts will be installed soon in Ocean View. Thank you to our amazing sponsors, donors, volunteers, patrons, and others who made it possible to bring new public art to our community!

August 2020 – The Sculpture Committee approved a conceptual design by Eileen Gay. Next, the Norfolk Arts Commission will review the proposed design. Once approved, work will commence! The sculpture is anticipated to take several months to complete. Installation is expected to take place in the spring or summer of 2021.

March 2020 - The Norfolk Arts & Coastal VA Plein Air Public Art planning committee has selected Eileen Gay to create a mosaic sculpture to be placed in Ocean View Beach Park to represent the authentic, salty integrity of OV. The artwork will directly engage visitors, instill passion and excitement and will highlight Ocean View’s uniqueness, natural beauty and great beaches. The artwork will be contemporary, forward-thinking and embody the meaning and history of the area. Eileen received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the California Institute of the Arts, was a Walt Disney Fellowship Scholar for four years and has been a recipient of numerous Society of American Mosaic Artists awards (2008-2019). http://www.eileensworld.com/
