En Plein Air Painters Set to Converge on Norfolk
Over 20 artists will gather in Norfolk on April 22-25, painting throughout our diverse area and contributing to the all-volunteer group's public art commitment. Coastal VA Plein Air's organizers have planned an exciting week with expanded free offerings to the public for the festival's fifth year. Led by renowned artist and judge M. Stephen Doherty, the en plein air artists include talented painters from throughout the region.
The festival's three winners from 2019 will offer free painting demonstrations on Thursday and Friday, April 23-24. Maria Reardon, last year's first place winner, will demonstrate her amazing pastel painting technique at Stony's Restaurant, located at Vinings Marine. The public can view Doug Clarke, 2019's second place winner and master of nighttime painting, in the evening at the area's historic Cutty Sark Restaurant. Lynn Mehta, 2019 third place winner, will demonstrate her remarkable impressionistic style of oil painting at D'Art Center.
On Saturday, April 25, plein air artists from throughout the region are invited a Quick Draw Paint competition. Art will be displayed and judged at the East Beach neighborhood's Bay Front Club, and the public is invited to this free event.
Details, including dates and times, for all events and artists are available at the festival's website, www.coastalvapleinair.com.
