Coastal VA Plein Air will help bring fine art to the Ocean View community by hosting the Fifth Annual Plein Air Festival on April 15-18, 2021. The event brings local, regional, and nationally known plein air artists to paint “en plein air” (in the open air) throughout our coastal community.
Several events will be held during the four-day festival. During the first few days and evenings, artists will paint at various sites throughout the broader Tidewater community. They will paint seascapes, cityscapes, gardens, architecture, and favorite landmarks, among other subjects. Two culminating events will take place on Sunday, April 18, at COVA Brewing Company, located at 9529 Shore Drive, Norfolk, VA (directions).
A ticketed event, the Coastal VA Art Patron Reception and Sale, will be held at 12 noon on April 18. Tickets for this event will be $30.00 per person and will give ticket holders the opportunity to browse and purchase artwork prior to the opening to the general public. Tickets will go on sale on March 1, 2021 and may be purchased on the our events page.
The Patron Reception and Sale will be followed by a Public Art Walk and Sale which will take place at COVA Brewing Company, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on April 18. This event is FREE and open to the public.
Funds raised from the events are used to bring art to the community. Coastal VA Plein Air is a not-for-profit, grass-roots organization comprised of private citizens who live in Norfolk. In 2019, it raised $24,000 and combined with a $26,000 grant from NorfolkARTS, was able to commission a public sculpture in the Ocean View Beach Park, Norfolk, VA. Proceeds from this year’s events will help commission a second piece of public art for the Ocean View community.
