Sue Bark is a contemporary oil painter residing in North Carolina. She studied illustration at the University of the Arts and received her degree in art at Virginia Tech. She taught photography in Virginia’s Fairfax County Public Schools before immersing herself in the local world of coastal Wilmington through her studio and plein air art, athletic endeavors as well as other adventures.

She has studied with regional and national artists and loves the idea of using color and light to express her vision of the world. Her paintings are filled with fresh brush strokes and happy colors. Her work has been compared to Wolf Kahn’s and Wayne Thiebaud’s work, both whom she greatly admires and feels a kinship to. Her visual expression of the world is created intuitively, usually through seaside and architectural landscapes. It is her intent to evoke a moment of joy in this age of confusion.

Sue’s work has been juried into regional and national shows, won awards and is in private collections. She participates in numerous plein air events each year, shows her work in several galleries and maintains a studio in downtown Wilmington, NC.
